The New York International Auto Show is an annual auto show held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, in late March or early April. It usually opens on or just before Easter weekend and closes on the first Sunday after Easter.
Being the nation's most heavily attended automobile exhibition, the Show is witnessed by around 1 million visitors each year, during its 9-day run. Nicknamed the “Crystal Palace” for its extensive use of glass, the Javits has the capacity to display over 1200 vehicles, making the New York Auto Show that much more enticing for exhibitors and patrons alike.
The Show opens with a sensational display to excite the public and promote the show. The Show includes different categories of exhibits from auto manufacturers and related companies around the globe. Many of the exhibits are hands-on, giving the public the opportunity to try sitting in the new vehicles and to explore new technology and features.
The 2008 New York International Auto Show is the 108th edition of the event, and is being held from March 21-30. It showcased some of the hottest production cars and concepts ever seen. Many of the vehicles are a result of cutting-edge innovative design studies, others just a few steps away from production, but all provide a window on the future of automobile design and technology. In addition, more than 43 vehicle manufacturers featured over 1000 new cars, trucks, minivans, SUVs, Concepts, alterations and technologies. |

BMW Alpina B7
|
|
The latest manifestation of the unique BMW-ALPINA synergy is the B7, based on the BMW 7 Series luxury sedan. For an unabashedly sporty interpretation of the 7 Series, ALPINA chose the path of supercharging BMW's V-8 engine. The achievement is an impressive 500 hp @ 5500 rpm and 700Nm @ 4250 rpm. Using the already advanced and sharp-handling 7 Series chassis, ALPINA fine-tuned the hardware to the B7's higher performance level. While retaining the regular models' Active Roll Stabilization - which counters body roll or "lean" in corners via electronics and hydraulics - ALPINA's engineers, working with BMW and tyre supplier Michelin, adopted a firmer calibration of springs and shock absorbers. They also chose the European 760i's brakes, which have larger dimensions than those of the 750i.
